Interpretation of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Trilogy
For decades, the concept behind ultra-thin watches has focused almost exclusively on classic, elegant and sleek design. Bulgari, however, had other plans. Why not incorporate these ultra-thin movements into a modern and bold collection of watches inspired by Italian design sensibilities, or in other words, Octo's signature? This is what the Bulgari Octo Finissimo trilogy is all about: iconic design and record-breaking movement - with the thinnest tourbillon movement, the thinnest minute repeater watch and the thinnest automatic movement ever Core (of course there are many more... ).
Drawing on watchmaking expertise gained through the production of in-house movements and the acquisition of two haute horlogerie manufacturers (Daniel Roth and Gerald Genta) a few years ago, Bulgari began developing a range of ultra-thin movements. The first sounded like a sensation in the watchmaking world: the thinnest ever tourbillon movement launched in 2014. Pictured: 1.95 mm in height, the movement consists of a flying tourbillon and nearly 250 parts. Overall, the movement is thinner than a 5 Swiss franc coin.
Later, seeing the interest of collectors in such impressive watchmaking expertise, Bulgari enriched the Octo Finissimo collection with two new creations: the thinnest ever minute repeater watch and movement ( Case thickness is 6.85 mm, movement thickness is 3.12 mm) and the thinnest automatic movement ever (height is only 2.23 mm). This is for technical achievement. But what about design?
Bulgari is also (perhaps primarily) known for being one of the most design-inspired brands, with strong ties to its Italian roots. Faced with such a "record-breaking" movement and with a name like Bulgari engraved on the bridges, the brand had to create something new, modern and bold. This is where the iconic "Octo" shape came in, creating the trilogy we know today... If you want to understand the technique and design process, we now hand over the floor to Guido Terreni (Bulgari Horlogerie Managing Director) SA) and Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani (Director Bulgari Watch Design Centre).
